Certified Bureau of Vertical Transit Expectations. Est. 2026. Every call logged, every position approximate.
The Bureau of Vertical Transit Expectations exists to formalize an act riders have performed unsupervised for over a century: standing in a lobby, pressing an already-lit button, and waiting. We now log it.
Upon each call, the Bureau estimates the elevator's position using proprietary shaft telemetry, residual cable vibration analysis, and a reasonable amount of guessing. This estimate is revised as often as necessary, and it is always necessary.
No elevator, however diligently called, may be confirmed to have arrived. Bureau charter reserves the word arrival for a future event not yet observed. This is described internally as prudent.
Pressing an already-lit button again does not summon the elevator faster. It is, however, logged, filed, and quietly appreciated. The Bureau thanks you for your continued presence in the lobby and notes that the indicator light is watching too.
